Kenyon Community Building
Kenyon Community Building
2010
I have been social worker for 30 years and an educator for 23 of those years. In my home country of Canada, I practiced rehabilitation social work working with physically disabled adults, I trained professionals and volunteers for non-profit organizations and I offered non-credit courses at York University. I taught at Ryerson University in Toronto and coordinated field education there until 2000 when I came to North Carolina. Here, I taught both undergraduate and graduate social work students and engaged in a variety of community projects and initiatives. Currently, in addition to offering ABCB training and consultation services, I am a part time instructor in the North Carolina State University, Master of Social Work program and an active member of the National Association of Social Workers, North Carolina Chapter.
I became interested in asset based community building after attending an ABCD workshop http://www.abcdinstitute.org with Henry Moore. Since that time, I have been committed to this powerful and humane perspective. I believe it is completely in sync with the social work values of self determination and social justice. I also appreciate the adaptability of this perspective.
I am currently offer training and consultation in asset based community building for clients such as the City of Raleigh and Partners for Sacred Places www.sacredplaces.org.
